Littera Textura Series

I began this series as a graduate student in the early 1980’s, and have continued it in my current work. I am fascinated by the hand-written script, of all languages, times, and places.  Ideagraphs, heiroglyhs, visual symbols, letters, numbers, musical notation and all forms of text serve as a visual language.  Through written text, a whole visual world unfolds, with rhythm, pauses, positive and negative shapes, and overall texture. As such, it communicates meaning, and carries a feeling of shared intimacy.  My continued interest in text now includes further investigations in the role of memory and historic record-keeping, and how that information is communicated and interpreted.
