Con-Daw-Haw: Scorched Earth Policy

Sold - to Cornell University, Flora Rose House

3-color reduction woodcut with charcoal, and graphite on vellum

General Sullivan and his troops were given orders to abolish the Haudenosaunee villages in the Finger Lakes in the late 1770's.  They executed the scorched earth policy by burning all the longhouses, cornfields, and orchards in these villages during harvest time.  The Haudenosaunee people fled to the north and west.  Today, we only see a New York State historic marker placed on this site.
