Inner Spaces: Birkenau / Ganondagen
4 color gum transfer on Rives BFK
I use the sense of place as a metaphor for revealing psychological and ontological meaning. I juxtaposed these two places in a moment in time, one from inside a barrack at Birkenau, the other inside this Indian longhouse at Ganondagan Museum near Viktor, New York. The juxtaposition is intended to compare and contrast the historic meanings of the two sites, and in particular reveal the distinct differences in atmosphere and quality of light that each inner space possesses. The differences are dramatic. Can it be that our thoughts and actions affect the physical spaces in which we inhabit? Do the things of the material world hold a record of our intentions?
